‘no homosexuals’

Whilst on balance I don’t think I could ever bring myself round to hoping for a non-Labour mayor in London, and whilst Ken is SO RIGHT on so many things, it is worth pointing out that it’s not that big a leap from here to here to here. And once there, it’s easy to leap to here …

Ken wouldn’t be the only one to have political links with countries that ‘deter’ homosexuality through the death penalty or life imprisonment. We wouldn’t have much oil if all our ties were cut with homophobic regimes. Not to mention exotic holidays: Barbados still jails gays for life, and Jamaica isn’t much better…

What about Brian Paddick? He might have a problem with this.

Yeah, Ken worries me sometimes. I understand that as a grown-up politician [as opposed to just someone banging away on a laptop] you have to engage with people, and I understand the attraction of Chavez, and I get that it’s overly simplistic to treat Iran in an “axis of evil” frame of mind, but he needs to be careful.

I think he sometimes acts like one of these Labour politicians who still think they’re in opposition – everything’s calculated to annoy the right as much as possible.

Paddick would be interesting. Though he surely doesn’t have a ghost in hell’s chance!
